The Blacklist: Will You Watch the NBC Drama Again?
5 hours ago | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »Last year, NBC found early ratings success with Revolution on Monday nights at 10pm. Will The Blacklist be a big hit, a moderate success, or quickly cancelled? Is it worth watching?
On The Blacklist, Raymond Reddington (James Spader) is a former government agent who's been selling classified information to terrorists. A wanted man, he turns himself in one day out of the blue. He offers to make a deal.
He will help the FBI capture terrorists but only if he's partnered with a certain newbie FBI agent named Elizabeth Keene (Megan Boone). Why her? Therein lies part of the mystery. Others in the cast include Harry Lennix, Diego Klattenhoff, Ryan Eggold, and Ilfenesh Hadera.
Does the show sound interesting? Here's what some critics are saying?

'The Blacklist': Will you watch James Spader track down more bad guys?
8 hours ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »"The Blacklist" may have been one of the most solid pilots to hit network television this fall. With James Spader killing it as the nefarious (but awfully fun) Red Reddington and Megan Boone solid as the young agent Red inexplicably wants to work with, this thriller could be a hit for NBC.
The question is, however, will the audiences tune in?
It's not like the show is perfect or anything. It isn't. Other than Red and Boone's Agent Liz Keene, none of the main characters have much to distinguish them by the end of the pilot. Maybe we want to know a little bit more about Liz's possibly-evil husband, but the crowd of FBI agents was made up of fairly indistinguishable G-men.
Hopefully, "The Blacklist" will right this wrong within a few episodes. There was so much happening in the pilot, after all, that massive character development for the secondaries just had to wait. »

The Blacklist Review: Scam or Second Chance?
8 hours ago | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »The opening scene of The Blacklist premiere was the most mesmerizing of the fall season and the show just continued to build from there. It continued to hold my attention until the very end with the compelling characters, performances and twists.
James Spader is captivating as one of America's Most Wanted criminals, Raymond "Red" Reddington, and Megan Boone holds her own next to him as FBI Agent Elizabeth Keen. She's not going to stand by and be Red's appointed apprentice. At times, she may have learned from him, but it was with the goal of gaining information.
When he didn't cooperate, she took matters into her own hands ... literally by putting a pen into his neck.
Why would a renowned and skilled criminal as Red decide to turn himself in? He claimed that it was because he wanted to help them capture a terrorist, Ranko Zamani, though that was just his way in. »

'The Blacklist' season premiere: Twist! Double twist!
9 hours ago | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »There’s a certain model of TV drama pilot where everything that happens is a twist piled on top of a twist, and every commercial break reorients our understanding of the show’s characters and its world until everyone appears to be a triple agent. When a series premiere feels like that, it can be incredibly thrilling — and also incredibly difficult to tell whether the show can sustain that level of narrative momentum. J.J. Abrams shows like Lost and Fringe came on strong with kinetic premieres, and then found their own unique rhythm — so did Hawaii Five-o, produced by Abrams »

Will You Add NBC's The Blacklist to Your List?
9 hours ago | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »James Spader (Boston Legal) is back — and he’s messing with FBI agents, chatting up terrorists and chewing up scenery. His character made the new NBC drama’s titular list and checked it twice, but is The Blacklist (which premiered Monday at 10/9c) naughty or nice?
The cat-and-mouse caper centers on Raymond Reddington (Spader), one of the FBI’s most wanted fugitives, and his relationship with neophyte FBI profiler Elizabeth Keen (played by Megan Boone, Blue Bloods). Raymond, a criminal mastermind with a penchant for causing havoc, turns himself in after years on the run, but refuses to speak with anyone other than Elizabeth. »

The Blacklist: Save It or Sink It
9 hours ago | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »Did you love watching James Spader be bad? NBC's new drama series (and one of our top five new fall shows) The Blacklist premiered tonight, and it set up what will hopefully be one of the most promising freshman seasons of the year. Spader stars as Raymond "Red" Reddington, one of the FBI's most wanted fugitives who suddenly and unexpectedly turns himself in. Red is on a quest to knock out certain criminals and terrorists that are on his "Blacklist," and he's come to the FBI not because he needs their help, but so he can help them catch the bad guys. Spader is perfect in this role of the intimidating, smart and oddly charismatic Red. Megan Boone plays the just-out-of-training »

'The Blacklist' Premiere Recap: An Introduction to Raymond Reddington
15 hours ago | buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news »The Blacklist's pilot episode is a grab bag of different tones ranging from very silly to deeply serious, and its success as a drama will depend largely on which direction it chooses to go in. Luckily, NBC seems to know that its biggest asset is star James Spader, who plays evil ex-military genius Raymond Reddington. Spader plays the part with creepy charm and just a hint of dark irony, mugging without ever winking and generally seeming to simply enjoy himself. If the writers can match that balance, they'll have a hit on their hands. »

Seitz on The Blacklist: This Latest Criminal Mastermind Show Is Exciting and Deeply Silly
17 hours ago | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »As Raymond "Red" Reddington, onetime super-spy turned international criminal at the center of The Blacklist, James Spader makes the same cliché entrance as a lot of mastermind characters these days: He strolls right into the lobby of FBI headquarters and surrenders. Why? Because he's so brilliant, so powerful, so sneaky that not even being in police custody can stop him from doing whatever he wants. What's his agenda, you ask? Good question. Red doles out answers in tiny little pieces, as criminal masterminds tend to do — especially on TV dramas, where it's foolish to give away your mysteries upfront. Red says he's here to help the government foil an upcoming terrorist attack on the U.S., employing information he gleaned by being such a mysterious and all-powerful super-shady super-criminal, and that he refuses to communicate with anyone except for rookie profiler Elizabeth Keene (Megan Boone of Law & Order: L.A. »

TV Review: Fascinating Character Fuels James Spader in ‘The Blacklist’
18 hours ago | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »Chicago – When he gets a part that he can bite his teeth into, James Spader chews it up. He got such a part when his agent got him the lead role on NBC’s “The Blacklist,” premiering tonight, September 23, 2013.
With a pilot directed by the talented Joe Carnahan (“The Grey”) and a concept that should give Spader plenty to “eat” for years to come, this is NBC’s best shot at a dramatic hit. Following the premiere of “The Voice,” I expect “The Blacklist” to be one of the few breakouts this season.
Television Rating: 3.5/5.0
Raymond “Red” Reddington (Spader) is one of the FBI’s Most Wanted fugitives. A genius in the mold of Hannibal Lecter, Reddington is a criminal power broker, the kind of guy who knows the guys who get their hands dirty and how to connect them. Having a government background makes him an even deadlier proposition for the United States. »

'The Blacklist': James Spader is very, very good at being very, very bad
18 hours ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »James Spader is very, very good at playing very, very bad.
In NBC's "The Blacklist," premiering Monday, Sept. 23, Spader is Raymond Reddington, one of the FBI's most wanted. He strolls into FBI headquarters, announces himself and prepares to be arrested.
Trained at the Naval Academy, where he graduated at the top of his class, "Red" Reddington was groomed to be an admiral. In 1990, while en route home to spend Christmas with his wife and young daughter, he vanished.
When Reddington surfaced, he was a mercenary of the highest order. He's a spy but for no particular country. He seems to know everyone and everything and trades information for money.
Reddington brokers deals all over the world. Why? To what end?
One of the show's tag lines is "Who is Red Reddington?" and it's apt. He is definitely an enigma.
Reddington is controlled and consistently the smartest man in the room. »

James Spader on The Blacklist, Shaving His Head, and His Stint on The Office
19 hours ago | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »James Spader claims to know very little about his latest character, Raymond Red Reddington, the enigmatic center of NBC’s new thriller, The Blacklist, which premieres tonight. But it’s safe to assume he’ll be a peculiar sort of career criminal, the kind of brilliant yet charming oddball Spader has cornered the market on in the last decade. He made Lincoln’s political operative W.N. Bilbo an eccentric dandy, played The Office’s Robert California as an inscrutable Zen master, and won three Emmys as Boston Legal’s unorthodox lawyer Alan Shore. (Up next: Tommy Lee Jones’s The Homesman, in which he plays a red-headed swindler with a dodgy accent.) It's the relationship Spader's character Raymond "Red" Reddington and rookie FBI profiler Liz Keen, played by Megan Boone, that keeps the show interesting.
