Witness tags Marcos, Legarda in pork scam

One witness to the multi-billion pork barrel scam tagged Senators Loren Legarda and Bongbong Marcos to the controversy, as the bail hearing for the serious illegal detention case also faced by the scam’s alleged operator Janet Lim Napoles’ resumed at the Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 150 Wednesday.

The serious illegal detention case was filed by her cousin and pork barrel scam key whistleblower Benhur Luy. Napoles, aside from the serious illegal detention, was also accused by Luy as the operator behind the multi-billion scam.

Marlina Pablo Suña, a former employee of Janet Lim Napoles, was presented by the prosecution.

Suña said she was present during a meeting attended by Napoles, Luy, and 2 other employees at their office in Ortigas in December 2012.

She narrated how Napoles got mad at Luy after reading a text message on his phone coming from a certain Maya Santos, who Suña identified as the project coordinator of Senators Loren Legarda and BongBong Marcos.

Santos would regularly go to hand her the requirements for the projects of the two mentioned Senators.

Sunña said Napoles was furious that Luy was making transactions behind her. Napoles then ordered Luy to be detained in one of the rooms of their Ortigas office, she added.

The camp of Napoles denounced the testimony of Suña by asserting the witness was no longer an employee of JLN during the meeting in question based on documents from the Department of Labor.

There were also inconsistencies between Suña’s affidavit and her testimony before the court, they noted.

Atty. Lorna Kapunan, meanwhile, made an appeal on behalf of her client about new restrictions on the visiting hours of Napoles who is currently detained in Fort Sto. Domingo, Sta. Rosa Laguna.

In an interview, Kapunan said Napoles' family find it difficult to visit her because of the rules.

The new visiting rule constitutes cruel and unusual punishment for someone who is not yet convicted of a crime, she added.
