Thousands stranded in historic Colorado flooding: Five people are dead and more than a thousand others remain unaccounted for as continued heavy rains hampered flood rescue efforts in Colorado. Some 17,494 homes have been damaged and 1,502 wrecked in the flood. The disaster has prompted the largest aerial response in the U.S. since Hurricane Katrina, NBC station KUSA reported. Helicopter teams from the National Guard and other agencies were waiting for conditions to improve before they could take off. 
Confusion, doubt haunt 'Obamacare': Weeks before pieces of it take effect, the new health-care law known as Obamacare remains highly unpopular. Forty-four percent of respondents to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll called the law a bad idea and just 12 percent think it will have a positive impact on their family.
Report to detail Syria chemical attack: The United Nations was due to release a much-anticipated report on an alleged chemical weapons attack in Syria on Monday, just days after Russian and American officials cobbled together a deal to rid the country of such arms. The report comes as Secretary of State John Kerry sought to drum up international support for the U.S.-Russian pact that calls for Syria’s stockpile of chemical weapons to be removed or destroyed by next year.
Veep flips burgers, woos voters: What brings you to Iowa, Joe? Vice President Joe Biden returned to the first-in-the-nation caucus state Sunday afternoon, flipping steaks and wooing Iowans nearly three years before the next presidential election. “It’s good to be back in Iowa,” Biden said standing in front of a massive American flag at the 36th annual Harkin Steak Fry.
Cop charged after crash victim fatally shot: A North Carolina police officer involved in the fatal shooting of an unarmed man early Saturday was charged with voluntary manslaughter and is in custody, authorities said. The victim apparently had been involved in a car wreck off a Charlotte road early Saturday and sought help at a nearby residence. The homeowner called 911, reporting a robbery attempt, setting in motion a fatal chain of events.
Bombers bomb out in Boston: The New York Yankees may still make the Major League Baseball playoffs, but it won’t be as the division champions. The Boston Red Sox beat the Yanks on Sunday to eliminate them from the American League East race. The Yankees, who trail the Rays and Texas Rangers by three in the wild-card standings, had won the last two division titles and 13 of the last 17.
