Loboc Children's Choir moves nation to tears

LOBOC, BOHOL - A children's choir singing Josh Groban's "The Prayer" moved the nation to tears Thursday night amid the Visayas earthquake tragedy.

The TV Patrol primetime newscast was already airing when members of the youth choir approached the ABS-CBN broadcast team and said they wanted to sing their message of hope amid the tragedy in quake-hit Bohol.

The award-winning Loboc Children's Choir performed at the end of the newscast, in front of the church ruins where they once sang many times.

Their song touched the hearts of people nationwide who were watching, with many expressing their emotions in social media.

The Loboc Children's Choir and their performance were also among the top trending topics on Twitter Thursday night.

The choir consists of students of the Loboc Central Elementary School in Bohol -- the epicenter of the magnitude 7.2 earthquake on Tuesday that has killed more than 150 people and affected more than 3 million others.

The choir has performed across the country and abroad, including in North America and Europe, as well as for Queen Sofia of Spain.

The group has won various awards, including first prize at the National Music Competitions for Young Artists in 1993 and 1995; national champion in the National Music Competitions for Young Artists in 2001; first prize and gold medal at the Europe and its Songs Festival in Spain in 2003, and The Europe and its Songs 2003 Cup.
